Foodtown of East Harlem is seeking an energetic Experienced Deli Clerk for a full-time role in East Harlem, NY. You will provide exceptional service at the deli counter, operate equipment safely, prepare fresh foods, and keep display cases stocked, appealing, and pristine.

Experience in NYC grocery deli or food service is preferred; duties include slicing, weighing, pricing, and maintaining cleanliness and health-code compliance in a fast-paced neighborhood setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a supermarket deli or food service setting.
• Deep knowledge of safe food-handling standards.
• Strong customer service orientation, basic math for weighing/pricing, and comfort using deli slicers.
• Stand for long periods, repetitive hand/wrist movements, lift up to 40 lbs, work in walk-in coolers/freezers.
• Full-time with weekend and holiday availability.

Responsibilities

• Warmly greet customers, take custom orders, and slice meats and cheeses to exact specifications.
• Prepare fresh deli items, including salads, hot meals, sandwiches, and catering trays.
• Keep deli cases fully stocked, rotated (FIFO), neatly arranged, and properly priced.

Key Responsibilities

• Customer Service: Warmly greet customers, take custom orders, and slice meats and cheeses to exact customer specifications.


• Food Preparation: Prepare fresh deli items, including salads, hot meals, sandwiches, and catering trays, adhering to strict food quality and taste standards.


• Product Management: Keep deli cases fully stocked, rotated (FIFO), neatly arranged, and properly tagged with accurate pricing.


• Equipment & Maintenance: Safely operate, clean, and sanitize commercial deli slicers, scales, fryers, ovens, and food preparation tools.


• Sanitation & Compliance: Maintain a spotless workstation following NYC Department of Health codes, food handling standards, and store safety policies.


• Inventory Control: Monitor product freshness, track waste, and assist with receiving and stocking deli shipments.
