DELI CLERK

PURPOSE STATEMENT

To maximize sales and profit in the Deli Department through courteous customer service.

Key Responsibilities

1. Greet customers, respond to questions, and explain store policies courteously.
2. Wrap, package, and sell products such as sandwiches, salads, sliced meats, cheeses, desserts, and party trays.
3. Process transactions accurately using cash registers, scanners, and scales.
4. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the department, including receiving and inspecting deliveries.
5. Adhere to health and safety regulations, including cleaning and equipment safety.
6. Stock and rotate products, ensure proper product placement, and maintain display standards.
7. Operate equipment safely, including slicers, scales, and fryers (must be 18+ for certain equipment).
8. Monitor product quality, handle damaged goods, and manage out-of-stock conditions.
9. Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned to ensure excellent customer service.

Qualifications

Required

• Basic math skills and ability to count.
• Effective communication skills.
• Stable work and educational history.
• Ability to read and write English.
• Judgment skills related to product placement and customer interaction.
• Ability to open cases and label products accurately.
• Good interpersonal skills.

Preferred

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a related role.
• Experience operating deli equipment (must be 18+ for certain machinery).

Physical and Work Environment

Involves moving, lifting up to 50 lbs., working on tile or concrete, climbing ladders, and working in varying temperatures.
