Job summary

TASC (Treatment Alternatives for Stronger Communities) is seeking a Deflection Specialist to connect with clients in targeted communities, provide outreach, education, and training on topics including substance use disorders and health insurance. This role serves as the public face of TASC in designated areas and involves direct client services and partnerships with community organizations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Knowledge of human behavior for assessment of signs and symptoms of substance abuse disorders; applicable to special populations.
  • CRSS, CPRS, or CADC certification preferred but not required.
  • One or more years of outreach work related to direct client services.
  • One or more years of experience with providing training and/or presenting at local or national conferences.
  • Knowledge of treatment and service providers in the service area is beneficial.
  • Highly organized with ability to multitask and strong follow-up skills.
  • Flexible in thinking and approaches to leading group discussions.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Internet.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals in achieving service plan goals through direct services and coordination with behavioral health, public agencies, and community resources.
  • Provide assertive and continuous outreach activities related to direct services for participants.
  • Refer participants to substance abuse treatment, recovery support services, housing, and other needs.
  • Attend community events and conferences to educate on law enforcement diversion and outreach for those with opioid or substance use disorders.
  • Assist enrollment for Medicaid for individuals without insurance as needed.
  • Perform follow-up activities to obtain items required for participant needs.
  • Develop relationships with project staff and community partners, providers, and police departments.
  • Represent the program and TASC at community events.
  • Provide ongoing training on program goals and topics including naloxone administration and distribution.
  • Work with participants with substance use disorders to assess needs.

Deflection Specialist

We are currently looking for full-time –

Starting at $44,676 - $47,000 contingent upon experience, education, etc.

Summary

This position will be responsible for connecting with clients within targeted geographic communities to provide outreach, education and training on targeted subject matter; including substance abuse disorders, community resources, pre-arrest deflection, health insurance, etc. This position will serve as a public face of TASC in the designated areas and be responsible for direct client services and community partners relations and training.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Assist individuals in achieving service plan goals through direct services and coordination of behavior health, public agencies, and community resources.

  • Provide assertive and continuous outreach activities related to direct services for participants
  • Make referrals to all essential needed direct services: Substance abuse disorder treatment, recovery support services, housing, etc.
  • Attend community events and conferences to provide education and awareness on law enforcement diversion and outreach to individuals with an opioid or substance use disorder.
  • Conduct enrollment assistance for Medicaid with individuals who are without insurance when needed.
  • Responsible for follow-up activities related to obtaining required for all participant needs.
  • Develop effective working relationships with appropriate project staff and community partners, providers, police departments etc.
  • Attend community events representing the program and TASC.
  • Provide training on an ongoing basis related to the programs targeted goals and objectives and subject matter including naloxone administration & distribution.
  • Work with participants with substance use disorder and assess their needs
Our Ideal Candidate
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Knowledge of human behavior for the assessment of signs and symptoms of substance abuse disorders. Specific knowledge is necessary for working with special populations.

The agency currently offers hybrid work schedules that combine in-office and remote work. Employees are required to report to the work site three days per week, with the option to work from home to two days remotely after 60 days of employment contingent upon job duties.
