Job Overview
A leading law firm is seeking a Defense Litigation Associate to join its Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team, with a primary focus on asbestos litigation. This role involves representing asbestos defendants in state and federal courts across various jurisdictions, collaborating with co-counsel and internal teams to develop defense strategies. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in toxic tort matters, particularly asbestos defense, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Location
Duties
- Take and defend depositions on a regular basis.
- Research and collaborate with senior attorneys to develop proactive defense strategies.
- Navigate claims through resolution by dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial.
- Draft memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
- Represent clients at courtroom appearances.
- Coordinate with co-counsel across various jurisdictions.
Requirements
- 2+ years of deposition and courtroom experience in toxic tort matters, with preference for those with specific asbestos defense experience.
- Admission to the New York Bar required.
- Admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).
- Familiarity with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing platforms for depositions, court conferences, and meetings.
- Ability to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight travel as needed.
- Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- High-level organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.
- Ability to quickly absorb, process, and understand new information.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain high standards of performance.
- Professional, cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude.
- Military experience is welcome.
Education
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Certifications
- Admission to the New York Bar is required.
- Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).
