Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin's Applied Research Laboratories seeks a Security and IT Manager to lead secure IT operations for a defense-focused environment. You will ensure DoD and federal cybersecurity requirements are met while enabling high-performance research in the Advanced Technology Laboratory.

The role requires a DoD-focused background with experience in regulated environments, risk management, and incident response, plus leadership of IT/security staff and budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field.
• Eight years of IT and cybersecurity experience in regulated or federal environments.
• Experience supporting DoD, UARC, FFRDC, or defense contractor programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead secure IT infrastructure operations including networks, compute, storage, and endpoints.
• Oversee cybersecurity strategy aligned with NIST RMF and DoD frameworks.
• Manage risk assessments, vulnerability management, incident response, and audit readiness.
• Ensure compliance with CUI, ITAR/EAR, and sponsor security requirements.
