Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin seeks an ATL Security and IT Manager at the PICKLE Research Campus to oversee secure IT operations in a defense-focused research environment. Responsibilities include leading networks, compute, storage, and endpoint management; managing DoD-aligned cybersecurity programs; and guiding staff while ensuring compliance with NIST, RMF, CMMC and CUI requirements.

Salary ranges from $140,000 to $225,000, negotiable with qualifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field.
• Eight years of IT and cybersecurity experience in a regulated or federal environment.
• Experience supporting DoD, UARC, FFRDC, or defense contractor programs.
• Working knowledge of NIST-based cybersecurity frameworks and accreditation processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead secure IT infrastructure operations, including research networks, compute environments, storage, and endpoint management.
• Oversee cybersecurity strategy and implementation aligned with NIST, RMF, CMMC, and related DoD frameworks.
• Manage risk assessments, vulnerability management, incident response, and audit readiness.
• Ensure compliance with CUI, ITAR/EAR, and sponsor‑specific security requirements.
• Develop and enforce IT governance, policies, and security procedures.
• Lead and mentor IT/security staff; manage budgets and vendor relationships.
• Serve as primary liaison to laboratory IT, security offices, and DoD stakeholders.
• Other related functions as assigned.
