Job summary

First American is hiring a Default Loan Servicing Specialist to ensure accurate, timely reporting of delinquent, bankrupt, foreclosed, and other defaulted mortgage loans to GNMA, VA, and FNMA. You’ll apply GNMA, VA, and FNMA guidelines in daily operations and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.

The role emphasizes high-volume, deadline-driven work with a focus on accuracy, auditable processes, and internal/external reporting support.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of directly related experience.
  • Knowledge of mortgage default reporting processes and regulatory guidelines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Validate and transmit default status codes, events, and claims data for GNMA, VA, and FNMA portfolios.
  • Reconcile discrepancies between servicing systems and default reporting platforms.
  • Monitor and maintain data integrity across default reporting channels.

What We Do

Default Loan Servicing Specialist is responsible for the accurate, timely, and compliant reporting of delinquent, bankrupt, foreclosed, and other defaulted mortgage loans to investors and government agencies, including Ginnie Mae (GNMA), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and Fannie Mae (FNMA). This role ensures adherence to agency guidelines, investor reporting requirements, and regulatory standards while supporting loss mitigation and servicing operations.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Validate and transmit default status codes, default reporting events, and claims-related data for GNMA, VA, and FNMA portfolios
  • Reconcile discrepancies between servicing systems and default reporting platforms to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Monitor and maintain data integrity across all default reporting channels
  • Partner with servicing, foreclosure, bankruptcy, and claims teams to ensure accurate loan status progression
  • Ensure compliance with investor and agency timelines and reporting requirements
  • Research and resolve reporting exceptions and data variances
  • Investigate and clear default reporting rejects in a timely manner
  • Prepare and support internal audits, investor audits, and agency inquiries
  • Assist in the development and delivery of internal and external reporting
  • Apply and interpret GNMA MBS Guide, VA Servicer Handbook, and FNMA Servicing Guide requirements in daily operations
  • Manage high-volume workflows while meeting strict deadlines and maintaining strong attention to detail
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Education, Experience, Licensure, and Certification
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of directly related experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of mortgage default reporting
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Extreme attention to detail and ability to adhere to strict guidelines and procedures
  • GSE and Government experience preferred
  • System of Record experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of computer software programs to include Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet and Microsoft Outlook experience preferred

Pay Range: $21.24 - $28.31 Hourly

This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
