Job description

Job Summary:

Perinatal Ultrasound Technologist - performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Schedules and coordinates tests, records test results, and prepares and maintains operational logs.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Performs Ultrasound Examinations according to AIUM protocols.
  2. Documents patient assessment and history.
  3. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
  4. Operates computer and ultrasound equipment for image production and documentation.
  5. Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
  6. Performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal images.
  7. Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history and communicates findings to the appropriate clinician.
  8. Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to unique needs of the department and respond appropriately.
  9. Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Follows department procedures/processes/policies.
  10. Practices safety measures in radiography by adhering to all governing regulations.
  11. Follows universal precautions, infection control guidelines and sterile technique.
  12. Complies with all governing regulations.
  13. Stocks and cleans exam rooms/work areas.
  14. Able to work unsupervised and perform exams independently.
  15. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patients while they are in sonographers care.
  16. Gathers appropriate laboratory results and completes laboratory requests.
  17. Reviews patients medical records to obtain record identifying information required for perinatology, instructs patient in preparing for examination and explains procedures to be performed.
  18. Weekend coverage at affiliated hospitals (portables).
  19. Obtain vitals, schedule follow-up appointments.
  20. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  21. Prepares preliminary reports.
  22. Applies the professions code of ethics in all aspects of practice.
