Job Summary:
Perinatal Ultrasound Technologist - performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Schedules and coordinates tests, records test results, and prepares and maintains operational logs.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs Ultrasound Examinations according to AIUM protocols.
- Documents patient assessment and history.
- Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
- Operates computer and ultrasound equipment for image production and documentation.
- Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
- Performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal images.
- Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history and communicates findings to the appropriate clinician.
- Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to unique needs of the department and responds appropriately.
- Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings and follows department procedures/processes/policies.
- Practices safety measures in radiography by adhering to all governing regulations.
- Follows universal precautions, infection control guidelines and sterile technique.
- Complies with all governing regulations.
- Stocks and cleans exam rooms/work areas.
- Able to work unsupervised and perform exams independently.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
- Gathers appropriate laboratory results and completes laboratory requests.
- Reviews patients' medical records to obtain identifying information required for perinatology, instructs patients in preparing for examination and explains procedures to be performed.
- Weekend coverage at affiliated hospitals (portables).
- Obtains vitals, schedules follow-up appointments.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
- Prepares preliminary reports.
- Applies the profession's code of ethics in all aspects of practice.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum one (1) year experience in Ultrasonography (will only accept new graduates from KPGA affiliated ultrasound program educational institutions).
Education
- Graduate of AMA approved Ultrasonography Program.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
- Basic Life Support required at hire from American Heart Association.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
- Nuchal Translucency Certification within 24 months of hire.
Additional Requirements:
- Basic PC (keyboarding & navigation) skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) years experience in Ultrasonography.
- Customer service aptitude demonstrated through Customer Service Assessment preferred.
Notes:
- Travel to contracted hospital to perform in-patient scans.
