Job Summary:
Perinatal Ultrasound Technologist - performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate, and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Schedules and coordinates tests, records test results, and maintains operational logs.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs Ultrasound Examinations according to AIUM protocols.
- Documents patient assessment and history.
- Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures based on anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information, and images.
- Operates computer and ultrasound equipment for image production and documentation.
- Ensures timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
- Performs quality control measures to ensure optimal images.
- Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to clinicians.
- Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to department needs and responds appropriately.
- Uses independent judgment during exams to differentiate between normal and pathological findings, following department policies.
- Practices safety measures adhering to all regulations.
- Follows universal precautions, infection control, and sterile techniques.
- Maintains exam rooms and work areas.
- Works independently to perform exams.
- Ensures patient safety, comfort, and well-being during procedures.
- Gathers laboratory results and completes laboratory requests.
- Reviews patient records, prepares patients, and explains procedures.
- Provides weekend coverage at affiliated hospitals (portables).
- Obtains vitals and schedules follow-up appointments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Prepares preliminary reports.
- Adheres to professional code of ethics.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of AMA-approved Ultrasonography Program; High School Diploma or GED required.
- License/Certification: BLS from American Heart Association; Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate in Ob-Gyn from ARDMS; Nuchal Translucency Certification within 24 months of hire.
Additional Requirements:
- Basic PC skills (keyboard and navigation).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum one year of Ultrasonography experience (accepting new graduates from KPGA affiliated programs).
- Minimum two years of Ultrasonography experience.
- Customer service aptitude (preferred).
Notes:
- Travel to contracted hospitals for in-patient scans.
