Job summary

Final Mile is seeking a Dedicated Capacity Planner for a 3rd shift (6pm-6am) on a 4-day work week to maximize driver, carrier and equipment utilization within a defined region. You will analyze daily demand, review driver capacity and drayage capacity, and partner with terminal operations and Account Management to develop and execute a market plan.

  • 3+ years of experience in transportation including routing and dispatching.
  • Above average knowledge of Operations, Hours of Service regulations, and DOT/State regulations.

  • Negotiate competitive spot rates for drayage services, ensuring optimal cost efficiency while achieving service goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to confirm capacity coverage in advance of anticipated customer forecasts.
  • Provide off-hours support for site-specific operations including fuel requests, hotel requests and accident reporting.
  • Monitor operational performance against capacity plans, identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.

Job description

This is a 3rd shift role (6pm-6am) and will be a 4-day work week

The Dedicated Capacity Planner is responsible for maximizing the utilization of company drivers, carriers and equipment within an assigned region to deliver the lowest landed cost while maximizing service to the customer. This role involves analyzing daily demand forecasting, equipment inventories, company driver capacity, third party drayage capacity to develop a successful market plan. The Dedicated Capacity Planner will work closely with various departments, including terminal operations and Account Management to optimize processes and capacity coverage, while negotiating with external resources to close any capacity gaps required to meet our customers daily demand and service expectations. The Dedicated Capacity Planner reports to the Central Dedicated Manager.

Essential Job Functions
  • Analyze and manage costs associated with capacity planning, including rail costs, equipment, and truck plans to maximize margins. Seek opportunities to reduce costs while achieving service and efficiency goals.
  • Responsible for analyzing Driver Optimization solutions and assigning loads to Company truck capacity in compliance with federal safety regulations, such as “Hours of Service” Federal Regulations, geographic considerations, and equipment constraints to maximize driver utilization.
  • Negotiate competitive spot rates for drayage services, ensuring optimal cost efficiency while achieving service goals.
  • Contribute to the development of the market plan and while being responsible for the daily execution of all inbound and outbound shipments within an assigned geographic territory or account specific customer.
  • Re-optimize loads when necessary to address delays, equipment failures, or driver issues, ensuring we achieve customer on-time service requirements.
  • Monitor operational performance against capacity plans. Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. Recommend and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Accountable for meeting established metrics, including loaded miles, driver utilization, service, safety and cost per load.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Account Management and Operations, to confirm capacity coverage in advance of anticipated customer forecasts. Communicate capacity plans and changes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide additional off hours support for site specific operations including but not limited to fuel requests, hotel requests and accident reporting.
  • Projects and/or Reporting Requirements assigned by Central Dedicated Manager.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to lead by example and foster collaboration within the workplace and also with the highest integrity, professionalism and respect.
  • Must continually change, adapt and be flexible in all areas of responsibility.
  • Must be highly motivated, goal oriented and able to complete tasks on time.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous responsibilities related to load planning for commercial truck fleets. Minimum of 3 years of experience in the transportation industry including routing and dispatching.
  • High School Diploma; Bachelor’s degree (in Business, Engineering, Logistics or related field) preferred.
  • Above average knowledge of Operations, Hours of Service regulations, and DOT / State Regulations within the transportation industry.
  • CDL is a plus but not required.
  • Proficient in Windows based programs, MS Word and Excel.
Salary

$45,000 - $55,000/year base salary + bonus eligibility

This is an estimated range based on the circumstances at the time of posting, however it may change based on a combination of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, education, market factors, geographical location, budget, and demand.
