Job summary

J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. is seeking a Capacity Coordinator I to coordinate a small group of carriers and IC drivers.

The role ensures safe, timely service through planning, routing, monitoring, and on-time delivery of freight. The candidate must be able to work day, night, and weekend shifts as needed. Responsibilities include building carrier relationships, optimizing operations via KPIs, creating reports, managing assets, payroll, and various administrative duties, while upholding

  • High School Diploma/GED with 1–2 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, and/or equivalent military experience.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to build and maintain positive, professional, safe, and reliable relationships with carriers and/or independently contracted (IC) drivers to ensure seamless new carrier set-up, minimize turnover, and maximize ongoing productivity
  • Develop knowledge of how to optimize operations and maximize profitability through the understanding of key performance indicators
  • Learn to create, maintain, and present customer-specific reporting and financial analysis
  • Develop knowledge on how to manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and/or assignment of carriers and/or independent contracted drivers to balance equipment in the market
  • Learn to perform administrative duties such as submitting payroll, management of the Net-Revenue budget, filing and documenting, resolving settlement issues, invoicing, and/or creating reports
  • Learn to coordinate yard duties such as checking/inspecting equipment, and partnering with maintenance to ensure all regular preventative maintenance services are scheduled on time and all safety-related mechanical issues are fixed for account equipment (as required)
  • Act as liaison between carriers and/or independently contracted drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service issues, routing and/or planning, mechanical problems, accessorial pay-related issues, etc. as they occur throughout the day and, where necessary, when on call
  • Maintain the Company's safety culture by complying with external & internal regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Learn to assign loads and plan, route, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on-time service and meet customer requirements, including managing exceptions based on pick-up and delivery schedules, and other environmental factors on the road

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED WITH 1-2 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, and/or equivalent military experience AND the ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed
  • AND/OR Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences:
  • Strong professional communication skills applied internally and externally
  • Proven experience in establishing and maintaining healthy working relationships
  • Experience in fostering strong customer relationships via delivery of commitments, open communication, and ongoing feedback/improvement
  • Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
  • Experience in Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to consistently travel to account and customer locations
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and shifting priorities and directives
  • Experience in holding people accountable and conducting difficult conversations
  • Ability to perform in a stressful and high-pressure work environment

Preferred QualificationsBachelors in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field AND 1 year of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, and/or equivalent military experience

CompensationFactors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
