Job summary

Land & Sea is seeking a Deckhand/Vessel Mechanic in San Francisco to support both deck operations and mechanical maintenance of vessels. The role combines hands-on deck duties with preventative maintenance of engines, pumps, and gear, ensuring safe, compliant operations.

You will perform watchkeeping, safety tasks, and sanitation duties while also diagnosing and repairing mechanical systems and equipment, with logs and spare parts management as part of daily tasks.

Qualifications

  • Experience in marine mechanical system is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical experience with the ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of vessel systems.
  • Understanding of maritime operations, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about environmental sustainability practices.
  • Basic Safety Training (BST) certification is preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deckhand duties include operational readiness, watchkeeping, and safety responsibilities.
  • Vessel mechanic duties cover preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Operate and maintain auxiliary equipment and manage maintenance logs.
  • Monitor inventory of parts and assist in ordering and replenishing as needed.
  • Respond to mechanical emergencies and perform general duties as assigned.
