Job summary

Capital Sand Company is hiring a deckhand to support lookout, navigation and tow operations on inland river vessels. This role involves handling lines, securing tow, and performing general maintenance on boats, dredges, and deck equipment.

The position requires overnight travel, five 12-hour shifts per week with some weekends, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather. A pre-employment screen and background checks apply; a valid driver’s license is preferred and transportation reliable.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of previous deckhand experience on inland rivers (preferred).
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Overtime and overnight travel required.
• Valid driver’s license preferred; reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist boat Captain with lookout, navigation, and securing tow.
• Handle ropes and cables to tow/dredge or secure vessels.
• Perform general vessel maintenance (oil changes, deck equipment).
• Maintain cleanliness of interior and exterior of vessels (galley, engine room).
• Assist with shift inspections and building tow.
• Participate in safety drills and training sessions.
• Observe Coast Guard regulations and safety policies.
• Cross-train in other dredging crew functions.
