Job summary

HII's Newport News Shipbuilding division seeks an Electrician to install, repair, overhaul and test ship electrical systems. You will read complex schematics and work on lighting, distribution, and navigation systems aboard naval vessels.

The role requires a certificate or diploma in Electrical or related fields, physical stamina, and the ability to lift 40 pounds. Background checks and training for radiation areas may apply; on-site work year-round with multiple shifts.

Qualifications

• Certificate or diploma in Electrical or a directly related field (e.g., Commercial/Residential/Industrial/Aviation Electrical).
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
• Willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen.
• Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds and perform overhead work.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, overhaul, and test electrical systems aboard the ship.
• Read and interpret complex electrical schematics and diagrams.
• Work on lighting, power distribution, communication, or navigation systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance and welding of studs for mounting equipment.
