5th Axis Inc. is seeking an experienced Deburr & Finish Lead to drive quality on the production floor. This hands-on leadership role blends advanced deburring, finishing and assembly work with daily workflow coordination and team development.
You will train, mentor, and support the Deburr & Finish team while ensuring compliance with drawings, travelers, and quality standards. Strong communication and safety focus are essential.
At 5th Axis, we're global leaders in precision machining, automated production, and turnkey manufacturing solutions. From advanced workholding systems to zero-point technology, we design, build, and deliver solutions that empower machinists and manufacturers worldwide.
We're looking for an experienced manufacturing professional who knows what quality finished work looks like, can keep production moving, and enjoys helping others get better at what they do.
If you have strong hands-on experience in deburring, finishing, machining, or precision manufacturing and are ready to take on a larger leadership role on the production floor, this may be the opportunity for you.
As a Deburr & Finish Lead, you won't be managing from behind a desk. This is a working Lead position that combines advanced hands-on production work with day-to-day coordination, employee training, and technical support.
You'll help organize workflow, communicate production priorities, maintain quality expectations, and serve as a go-to resource for the Deburr & Finish team.
This is a hands-on manufacturing position. Candidates should have direct experience in deburring, finishing, machining, assembly, or a similar precision manufacturing environment.
Production priorities change during the shift-you help organize the work and keep product moving.
A technician needs help achieving the required finish or resolving a workmanship issue-you provide hands-on guidance.
A drawing, traveler, or work instruction raises a question-you help verify the requirement and escalat when necessary.
A newer employee needs additional training-you demonstrate the process and reinforce the correct work method.
You identify a quality or process concern before product moves downstream-you make sure it is addressed appropriately.
You work alongside the team while helping management maintain consistent safety, quality, and production expectations.
Perform advanced deburring, finishing, assembly, and related production activities.
Coordinate daily workflow and work assignments based on established production priorities.
Provide technical direction, hands-on training, and day-to-day support to Deburr & Finish personnel.
Monitor work in process and communicate production status, constraints, material needs, and workflow concerns to management.
Help maintain timely movement of product through deburr, finishing, assembly, inspection, and downstream operations.
Ensure work is performed in accordance with current drawings, travelers, work instructions, revision requirements, and quality standards.
Assist with resolving production, workmanship, equipment, and process issues.
Identify and elevate product discrepancies and nonconforming conditions.
Support employee training, cross-training, and skill development.
Assist management with process improvements, workplace organization, and consistent department standards.
Ensure required production documentation and system transactions are completed accurately.
Reinforce established safety, quality, housekeeping, and production expectations.
Remain actively involved in production and provide hands-on support as needed.
At least five years of experience in deburring, finishing, machining, assembly, precision manufacturing, or a related production environment.
Strong hands-on experience with deburring, finishing, inspection, hand tools, power tools, and related production equipment.
Experience training, mentoring, coordinating, or providing work direction to other employees.
Ability to read and work from drawings, travelers, work instructions, and production documentation.
Strong understanding of workmanship and visual quality requirements.
Ability to identify production, process, and quality issues and recognize when additional/support required.
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to balance hands-on production work with workflow coordination and employee support.
Experience with Epicor or a similar manufacturing ERP system is preferred.
Previous formal Lead experience is preferred but not required.
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Relevant manufacturing, quality, safety, or technical training is preferred.
Experienced Deburr & Finish Technicians ready to get the next step into leadership.
Senior manufacturing technicians who enjoy training and developing less-experienced employees.
Machinists or production professionals with strong finishing and quality experience who want a broader role on the shop floor.
Current Leads looking for a hands-on position where they can remain technically involved.
Manufacturing professionals who naturally become the person others turn to when there is a question or problem.
Experienced production employees who can balance quality, throughput, safety, and the needs of the team.
Competitive pay with performance-based bonus opportunities
100% company-paid medical coverage available for employees
Company-paid life and disability insurance
401(k) with up to a 5% company match
Generous paid time off and paid holidays
Training and meaningful opportunities for career advancement
