Job summary

Oakland Schools is seeking a Dean of Students to provide leadership and coordination of proactive student support services aimed at improving behavior, attendance, engagement, social-emotional well-being, and academic achievement.

The Dean identifies student needs, coordinates timely interventions with the Student Support Network Team, partners with families and staff, and helps shift from a reactive to a preventive approach that promotes engagement and consistent attendance.

The Dean of Students provides leadership and coordination of proactive student support services focused on improving student behavior, attendance, engagement, social-emotional well-being, and academic achievement. In collaboration with the Student Support Network Team, the Dean identifies student needs, coordinates timely interventions, and partners with students, families, and staff to address barriers to success. This position supports the school's Partnership Agreement attendance benchmarks and outcomes through data-informed interventions, ongoing monitoring, and short-term effectiveness measures. The Dean will help shift student support from a primarily reactive approach to a proactive, preventative system that promotes student engagement, consistent attendance, and academic success.
