Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago is seeking a Dean of Instruction for Olive-Harvey College to provide leadership and direction for all instructional and academic support systems within the college's credit programs. The role supervises Associate/Assistant Deans, faculty, and staff, and works with the Sr.

Vice President of Academic Affairs on program development and evaluation. The Dean will oversee curriculum and course development, coordinate budgets, and guide faculty performance and accreditation

Qualifications

  • Requires Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with 30 graduate hours in a related field; Doctorate preferred.
  • Five years of teaching in a higher education setting.
  • At least two years of administrative experience as Department Chair, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean, or Program Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises faculty and staff for the programs.
  • Prepares departmental budgets and monitors expenditures.
  • Coordinates program development, curriculum, and evaluation.
  • Supports accreditation processes and program review.
  • Leads planning and development activities including grant applications and research.

DEAN OF INSTRUCTION
OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE

Olive-Harvey College is looking for a Dean of Instruction todirect, manage, and provide leadership in all instructional andacademic support systems within the college's credit programs. TheDean of Instruction promotes and coordinates programs, curriculum,and course development and evaluation. The Dean of Instructionreports to the Sr. Vice President of Academic Affairs and hasmanagerial responsibilities over Associate Dean of Instruction,Assistant Dean of Instruction, full-time/part-time faculty, andadministrative staff associated with the program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Reviews courses to ensure they comply with the goals andobjectives of the program. Coordinates the revision ofinstructional materials every academic year.
  • Conducts in-service programs for all full and part-timefaculty. Conducts orientation meetings with new academicstaff.
  • Directs and supervises faculty associated with the programs.Provides necessary supplements for staff to accomplish the goalsand objectives of the courses taught. Advises staff in areas ofimprovement. Regularly evaluates all faculty and providesconstructive feedback on their work according to Board/UnionAgreement.
  • Works with the Director of Planning and Development inpreparing college credit grant applications and coordinatingresearch projects as needed.
  • Prepares departmental budgets. Monitors expenditures ofrestricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Coordinates courses, curricula and program development,evaluation, and follow-up.
  • Performs faculty evaluations, primarily responsible for tenureprocess and faculty development week.
  • Provides leadership to Research and Assessment Committee andStrategic Planning Committee, and others as needed.
  • Assists students in completing their academic goals andobjectives. Provides additional guidance and assistance asindividually needed. Investigates written complaints to estate established college procedures.
  • Coordinates and prepares HLC self-study document and ICCBProgram Review.
  • Collaborates with the Vice President regarding general collegeoperational processes and acts as a go to person for the VicePresident.
  • Supervises department chairpersons and coordinates monthlychairperson meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution andthirty (30) graduate hours in a related field required. Doctoratepreferred.
  • Five (5) years teaching in a higher education setting.
  • Minimum two (2) years administrative experience as DepartmentChair, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean, Program Coordinator.
  • Active participation or exposure to higher educationaccreditation procedures, articulation processes and programreview.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop/create activities that focus onassessment of student learning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism inone’s work experience.
  • Experience preferred working within a unionized setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a learning environment thatfosters student success.
  • Demonstrated collaborative approach to engaging faculty andstaff.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a technologically integratedenvironment that fosters innovation within a learningorganization.

Salary Range: $104,775 - $120,000 annually

Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education,knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such asinternal equity.
