Job summary

Olive-Harvey College is seeking a Part-time Adjunct Instructor to teach in the Urban Agriculture Department. The candidate will design courses, engage students actively, and use diverse strategies to meet learning outcomes.

The role requires a Master’s degree in agriculture or related life sciences, cannabis industry experience, familiarity with Illinois laws, and strong communication skills. Chicago residency is required for all part-time employees.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in agriculture or related life sciences.
  • At least 1 year experience in the cannabis industry either teaching, developing curriculum or work experience.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of Illinois cannabis laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of D2L, preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students.
  • Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population is desirable, as is a commitment to open access mission of the community college.

  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
  • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
  • Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students.
  • Contribute to and provide leadership in the student’s academic and professional communities, and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.

OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE

Olive-Harvey College is currently seeking a Part- Time faculty toteach in the Urban Agriculture Department. The ideal candidatewill have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing andusing effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverseneeds and engage the student in critical thinking andproblem-solving.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design courses to meet learning outcomes, and promote students’active participation in their own learning.
  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve usingdiscipline-specific thinking strategies.
  • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments toensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and theattainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree or higher in the agriculture or related lifesciences field. Life sciences fields include but are not limitedto: Animal Science, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology,Bioengineering, Botany, Cell Biology, Ecology, EnvironmentalBiology, Environmental Science Field Biology, Genetics, HumanBiology, Ichthyology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, MD,Mycology, Ornithology, Plant Physiology, Plant Science &Zoology.
  • At least 1 year experience in the cannabis industry eitherteaching, developing curriculum or work experience
  • Familiarity with and understanding of Illinois cannabis lawsand regulations
  • Knowledge of D2L, preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability tocommunicate with diverse group of staff and students required.
  • Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population isdesired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of thecommunity college.

Salary: $800 - $837 - $943 per Contact Hour based on Degree

The rate paid is in accordance with City Colleges approved salaryscale.
