Job summary

Southwestern Michigan College seeks a Dean of Nursing and Health Services to lead the School of Nursing and Health Services, guiding academic and operational directions and aligning with accreditation standards.

The Dean will strengthen programs, support faculty development, deepen clinical partnerships, and shape pathways for students pursuing nursing and health careers in a community-focused region.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree with a major in nursing from an accredited institution.
• Current unrestricted license to practice as a registered professional nurse in Michigan, or eligibility/ability to obtain before assuming.
• Experience in professional nursing practice and current knowledge of registered nursing practice.
• Educational preparation or experience in academic teaching and nursing education.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in nursing education, health care, or related setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the School of Nursing and Health Services, advancing academic excellence and student success.
• Ensure compliance with Michigan Board of Nursing requirements, accreditation standards, and College policies.
• Lead curriculum review, program evaluation, and improvement to meet workforce demand and professional standards.
• Recruit, develop, supervise, and evaluate faculty and staff, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
• Oversee academic and clinical operations, including scheduling, staffing, placements, labs, and simulations.
• Develop and manage budgets, advocate for resources necessary to sustain high-quality nursing and health services education.
• Foster strong relationships with hospitals, health care providers, employers, and community partners for clinical education and workforce development.
• Represent the College in regional initiatives to advance employer-responsive health care education and partnerships.
• Collaborate with Admissions, Advising, Student Services, Marketing to support recruitment, progression, retention, and licensure success.
• Identify opportunities for growth, new programs, partnerships, and clinical experiences to meet regional health care needs.
• Pursue external funding, grants, and partnerships to support instructional quality and student success.
