Job summary

Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 seeks an Intervener for Visually Impaired Support at the middle school level in Hanover, PA. The role supports deafblind students, bridging communication with tailored methods and collaboration with teachers and families.

The position is full-time (7 hrs/day, 188 days/year) with a starting hourly wage of $25.22 and a strong benefits package. Requires LIU intervener certification and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year experience with children with sensory impairments preferred.
• First Aid/CPR certification recommended.
• Must obtain LIU-approved crisis prevention program certification.
• Must obtain highly qualified status within one year of hire.
• Knowledge of assistive technologies and deaf-blind communication methods.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Patience, empathy and inclusive learning environment.
• Ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Must complete LIU Intervener Certification Program.
• Enrollment in LIU-intervener training within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Support deafblind students by facilitating communication in regular and special education settings.
• Collaborate with service providers, consultants, and parents.
• Implement modifications to communication methods and environmental access.
• Foster a secure and encouraging learning environment.
• Assist teachers in addressing communication, academic, social and emotional needs.
