Job summary

State of Maryland's Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick seeks a Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioner to mentor deaf and hard-of-hearing students, support daily life skills, and connect families with resources.

The role involves supervising students, enforcing schedules, tutoring as needed, maintaining confidentiality, and complying with licensing requirements. Candidates must meet education/experience criteria and be fluent in American Sign Language.

Qualifications

• Must be 21+ with a high school diploma or GED.
• Or at least 18 with an AA or BA from an accredited college.
• 1 year of experience guiding deaf/hard of hearing youth in a student life setting.
• Fluency in American Sign Language is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe environment with direct supervision at all times.
• Mentor and guide students and model deaf culture.
• Assist with daily schedules, homework, meals, sleep, and hygiene.
• Observe and address conflicts to minimize disturbances.
• Document problems to RCYCP Supervisor; may tutor academically.
• Maintain confidentiality of students and staff information; perform related duties.
