Job summary

Craven County Schools in Havelock, NC seeks a Language Facilitator for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to support communication between D/HH students and classroom staff. The role reports to the Hearing Impaired Teacher/Director of Accountability and Exceptional Children and covers a 10-month term.

The position emphasizes facilitating access to instruction, coordinating with teachers, monitoring progress, and promoting student independence within the IEP framework. Immediate start is requested.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of typical language development.
• Understanding of impact of hearing loss on communication, development, and learning.
• Familiarity with federal and state mandates related to students with hearing loss.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates communication between D/HH students and teachers, staff and peers in the student’s preferred mode(s).
• Previews classrooms and materials to ensure access to visual and auditory information.
• Collaborates with D/HH teacher and staff to support student needs and IEP goals.
• Assists in monitoring amplification and IEP progress as appropriate and documents concerns.
• Supports gradual student independence in education and communicative competence.
