Job summary

Culpeper County Public Schools seeks a dedicated educator to plan and provide specialized instruction for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH). Under the direction of the Executive Director of Special Education, you will develop IEP goals, monitor progress, and support language, literacy, and social development in a collaborative school setting.

You will communicate with students, parents, staff, and the community, assess student outcomes, and ensure compliance with IDEA and Virginia

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or equivalent credentialing.
• Licensed or eligible for Virginia professional endorsement in special education.
• Must be recommended by the Division Superintendent and approved by the School Board.
• Equivalent training, education, and/or experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Plan a program of study that meets student needs and abilities.
• Instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
• Develop IEPs with appropriate goals and objectives for students with disabilities.
• Provide instruction and support to DHH students per IEP.
• Conduct assessments and diagnostic examinations for DHH students.
• Evaluate language, auditory, and literacy development relevant to hearing loss.
• Interpret assessment results to guide language acquisition and social development.
• Provide language development instruction including vocabulary, phonics, and amplification use.
• Offer in-service training on hearing loss and amplification devices.
• Coordinate with educational interpreters for assessments and classroom activities.
• Educate families on hearing loss, communication options, and roles of professionals.
• Monitor language acquisition and progress toward IEP goals.
• Lead IEP meetings and manage related duties.
• Adhere to Least Restrictive Environment in IEP placement decisions.
• Complete IDEA and Virginia regulations paperwork on timelines.
• Maintain accurate progress records and reports.
