Qualifications

• Must be registered with the Oklahoma State Department of Education educational interpreter registry.
• QAST 3 or above or EIPA 3.5 or above or National certification.
• Interpreter must meet 10 hours of CEU every year-5 hours of education related and 1 hour of Ethics.
• Ability to interpret/transliterate at a normal conversational rate using American Sign Language.
• Maintain FERPA confidentiality and participate in IEP meetings.

Responsibilities

• Provide communication between the hearing-impaired student and hearing persons in the school (e.g. teachers, admins, staff, peers).
• Provide tutoring, extra explanation, and rephrasing for lessons as needed.
• Become familiar with lesson content, vocabulary, videos, and handouts to communicate/sign appropriately.
• Provide additional interpreting for special activities, with compensation.
• Aid staff in understanding the deaf student’s educational needs and culture.
• Maintain student confidentiality under FERPA.
• Participate in educational team meetings and IEP progress reviews.
• Adhere to professional conduct guidelines per NAD? RID codes.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
