Job summary

Michigan School for the Deaf in Michigan is seeking an Academic Support Substitute for the 2026-2027 school year to provide reliable classroom coverage and uphold instructional continuity.

You will deliver teacher‑prepared lessons, supervise students, support small groups, complete attendance and incident reports, and assist with behavior tracking and MSD growth program activities, in a compliance‑minded environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Experience working with school-aged children in a Deaf school preferred.
• Fluency in American Sign Language required or strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom instruction based on teacher-prepared lesson plans.
• Provide coverage for paraprofessionals, office staff, or program-related activities as needed.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and orderly learning environment.
• Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, and during transitions.
• Support academic programming with small-group instruction or enrichment.
• Follow established building procedures, schedules, and expectations.
• Communicate effectively with staff, administrators, and students.
• Manage student behavior using MSD protocols and expectations.
• Complete attendance and incident reports as required.
• Provide clerical support to leadership for behavior tracking and credentialing.
