Job summary

Chicago Magnesium Casting Co in Blue Island, IL is seeking an RT Level 2/3 radiographic inspector to prepare and x‑ray parts to approved techniques under supervision. You will work with customer specifications and CM procedures to ensure quality casting processes.

• Complete, date, and sign-off on routing information.
• Perform tasks efficiently according to standards.
• Familiar with CM procedures M13 and SP 402 and traveler tickets.
• Sort parts by melt, dash, or serial numbers; verify quantities and welds.
• May remove flash, sand, metal, defects, or debris from castings.
• Serialize parts per CM procedures and tickets; log books.
• X-ray parts to approved CM technique SP402.
• Inspect and analyze casting for defects; decide repairs or scrap.
• Prepare castings for welding.
• Review work instructions, inspection plans, weld maps, and blueprints.
• May perform and verify calibrations.
• Communicate defect patterns and suggest improvements; coordinate with Welding when needed.
• Report problems to management.
• Oversee x-ray trainees; sign off on x-ray shots.
• Perform other related duties.

Job description

Basic Function

Prepare and x-ray parts to an approved technique under the supervision of an RT Level 2 or 3. Must be familiar with customer specifications and required CM procedures. Salvage castings at the end of production process by removing any final flash, sand, metal, defects or other casting debris that is found in the x-ray process. Interact with welding department by preparing castings for weld repair. Understand the welding process, attributes necessary for successful welding, and support the welding department. Employee will interact with Final Inspection and Quality departments learning about scrap, disposition, and analyzing repetitive clean‑up and making suggestions for continuous improvement.

• Report any problems or discrepancies to immediate management.
• Provide oversite to x-ray trainees by verifying and signing off on all x-ray shots.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
