Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist students with personal hygiene, nutrition, comfort, and safety issues.
• Provide general/emergent care to students as directed by the Registered Nurse and building administration.
• Prepare and administer medication as directed by the student's physician.
• Monitor students for allergic reactions and follow individual health care plans or district procedures.
• Respond to health-related phone calls and parent questions.
• Monitor and check for head lice when required.
• Prepare and monitor health records.
• Maintain daily medication administration and daily nursing office visits in Infinite Campus.
• Correspond with parents when appropriate.
• Complete staff/student injury forms as needed.
• Perform other service or clerical duties as assigned by the Registered Nurse or school administrator(s).
• Attend trainings and complete required training to assume duties and responsibilities of the position yearly.
• Perform catheterization, tube feeding, use electronic blood pressure equipment, pulse oximeter, peak flow meter, and provide care to students needing medication such as diastatic, intranasal versed, glucagon, insulin, and epi-pen.
• Willing to work with a diverse population and treat all with dignity and respect.
• Recognize the need for confidentiality respecting children's and parents' rights to privacy.
• Build rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
• Maintain good attendance and punctuality.

Physical Requirements of Position

• Ability to routinely lift/carry office supplies and printed materials weighing up to 25 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels in person and/or on the telephone.
• Ability to communicate clearly in normal conversation in person and/or on the telephone.
• Ability to operate a computer, calculator, copy machine, telephone, and other office equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to withstand weather for outside activities.
• Ability to bend, squat, and kneel.

Job Requirements

• Must hold Infant/Child/Adult CPR certificate prior to start date and remain current.
• Must hold Mandatory Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Reporter Certificate prior to start date and remain current.
• Must complete background check every two (2) years, FBI fingerprinting check every four (4) years, and completed Physical every three (3) years as per DHS Guidelines.
• Must complete Universal Precaution and Exposure Training prior to start date and remain current.
• Must be willing to complete the Medication Administration Certificate training and remain current.
• Must have a valid Medical Certificate of Current Good Health and Physical ability to carry out the duties described.
