Position Concept

In this position, the technician or specialist reports to the engineering manager, Solar and Energy Storage Operations. This individual is responsible for personal safety awareness, maintenance and technical support of all Solar Digital Control/Computer Systems (DCS), and other Solar wide Process Control systems, including associated subsystems and field input and output devices. Technical support includes training and assisting all Maintenance, Operating, Engineering and Management personnel that use the Plant Digital Control Systems. The role also supports updating and maintaining system backup processes, software and data interfaces such as the Canary System (Historian), Maintenance IO and Calibration Report database applications, and addresses Solar DCS cyber‑security concerns.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • On an ongoing basis ensure the Solar Digital Process Control/Computer systems are maintained and running properly. Initiate all necessary repairs or manage maintenance of said systems.
  • Provide day‑to‑day operational and maintenance support to local personnel for all Solar Process Digital Control/Computer systems and subsystems, provide training as needed, and handle spare parts review and documentation.
  • Ensure Solar DCS subsystems (e.g., Ignition Control System, Canary Historian, Solar Plant Master Controllers) are maintained and running properly.
  • Support upgrades and new installations of Plant Process Control/Computer systems and subsystems. Document installations, review future maintenance requirements, provide graphic, control and point‑building support, and conduct periodic alarm priority reviews.
  • Maintain personal safety awareness through training, meetings, housekeeping reviews, PPE reviews, and compliance with safety procedures to ensure an injury‑free workplace.
  • Continuously update knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art equipment and operating procedures for station controls optimization.
  • Provide technical support and direction in Instrument & Controls areas for routine and emergency maintenance, problem resolution, root‑cause analysis, and documentation of new installations or upgrades.
  • Implement and maintain Solar cyber‑security initiatives, including NEC® standard compliance, equipment configurations, software backups, anti‑virus and public domain sub‑systems, and password administration.
Education

Required: A minimum of a high school education. Additional technical training specific to the area of responsibility is expected.

Preferred: An Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Science degree from an accredited college.

Experience

Maintenance Specialist II

Required: Minimum of 10 years of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position. Experience with PLC, RTU, HMI and other industrial control and telemetry systems.

Preferred: Work experience in a solar or renewables environment.

Maintenance Specialist III

Required: Minimum of 12 years of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position. Experience with PLC, RTU, HMI and other industrial control and telemetry systems.

Preferred: Work experience in an industrial‑scale solar site. A college degree may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience (2 years with an associate’s and 4 years with a bachelor’s).

This position requires a working knowledge of industrial‑scale solar design, basic control processes, strong attention to detail, good planning skills, good written and verbal communication, teamwork, and heightened safety awareness. Must pass a pulmonary function and negative‑pressure respirator fit test and use PPE on‑the‑job.

Must be able to work in dusty, hot, and outdoor environments.

Must successfully complete the following physical worker medical exam.

Storm Duty Requirements

Team members are required to participate in response and recovery activities related to emergencies and disasters to maintain service to Tampa Electric customers. They must work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures. Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.
