Job summary

NiSource is offering a 12-week Summer Federal Government Affairs internship based in Washington, DC. The intern will join the Public Affairs and Sustainability team, supporting federal policy initiatives and PAC activities under supervision of the Manager of Federal Government Affairs.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a related field, proficient with Microsoft Office, and eager to learn, take ownership, and contribute to NiSource's policy priorities while meeting a 40-hour weekly schedule and

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a college or graduate program focused on Political Science/Public Policy/Energy/Sustainability/Engineering.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Strong analytical and research skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• High‑performance, eager to learn and take ownership.
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively on teams.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Willing to work 40 hrs/week during the summer.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Federal Government Affairs team to assist in executing government affairs strategies.
• Support development and execution of public policy priorities and advocacy plans.
• Contribute to PAC membership initiatives and record-keeping.
• Prepare summaries of testimonies for hearings highlighting potential impacts on business operations.
• Help advance PAC-related efforts to increase enterprise membership.
• Develop materials to support team meetings and cross-functional collaboration.
• Other duties as assigned.
