Position Purpose
The DC Area Supervisor leads an hourly team and influences the entire distribution team to do the fast-paced work required to run the distribution center as efficiently, safely, and productively as possible. This role manages responsibilities for team members under supervision, ensuring prompt, efficient, and accurate handling of merchandise, and developing team goals. Responsibilities include hiring, evaluation, development, discipline, and termination of hourly associates, overseeing 20 to 30 associates.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing Process (45%): Ensures all operations procedures are followed effectively, recommends changes to management, evaluates work methods, and suggests improvements to eliminate inefficiencies.
- Coaching and Developing Associates (25%): Guides associates in daily operations, monitors productivity, safety, service, and quality. Responsible for training, coaching, feedback, evaluations, and handling associate relations issues, including hiring, discipline, and terminations.
- Drives Results (15%): Maintains inventory accuracy, reviews reports, and identifies areas for improvement in productivity, accuracy, quality, and expenses.
- Business Planning (15%): Coordinates operations to meet business performance targets, reviews reports, and plans staffing needs accordingly.
- Additional Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Reporting and Supervision
- Typically reports to the Operations Manager.
- Supervises work activities of others, including planning, monitoring, and reviewing work, and making recommendations on staffing and performance.
Travel and Physical Requirements
- Overnight travel less than 10%.
- Requires physical exertion such as walking, standing, lifting, etc.
Working Conditions
- Indoor environment, infrequent unpleasant conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 18 or older, legally permitted to work in the U.S., flexible with shifts, able to relocate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, computer skills, warehouse management experience, 3+ years supervisory experience.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED; 2 years of work experience preferred.
