Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Database Engineer to design, implement, and automate enterprise SQL Server platforms across on-prem and Azure cloud environments. Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience engineering SQL Server platforms in enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure and database services.
• Advanced experience with Terraform and Ansible for IaC standards and deployment pipelines.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, scripting, automation, and DevOps practices.

*To be considered for this position, candidates will be required to sit onsite in either Buffalo, NY or Wilmington, DE markets. This position requires 4x per week on sitDatabase Engineer (SQL Platform Engineering | Azure Cloud | Infrastructure Automation)

The Database Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, automation, and operational excellence of the enterprise SQL Server platform. This role serves as a technical leader and trusted advisor, driving the strategy, architecture, security, performance, and scalability of database services across on‑premises and Azure cloud environments. The engineer partners closely with application teams, architects, and infrastructure teams to deliver highly available, resilient, and compliant database solutions that support critical business applications.

This position emphasizes Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and platform automation through Terraform and Ansible, enabling consistent deployment, configuration management, patching, and lifecycle management of SQL Server environments. The Database Engineer designs and maintains Azure‑based database infrastructure, develops platform standards, optimises performance and capacity, and leads modernisation initiatives that improve reliability, operational efficiency, and developer experience. As a subject matter expert, the role provides technical leadership, mentors team members, supports audit and regulatory requirements, and influences enterprise database strategy and roadmaps.

• Advanced experience with Terraform, Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, scripting, automation, and DevOps practices.
• Strong understanding of security, compliance, monitoring, and operational support within regulated environments.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and stakeholder management skills.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Buffalo, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $61.67 - $86.11/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
