Job summary

Jobgether is seeking an experienced DB2/IMS Database Administrator to support IBM Db2 for z/OS and IMS environments, with an emphasis on performance, availability, security, and disaster recovery. This remote role requires collaboration across teams and participation in a formal on-call rotation.

You will administer large-scale production databases, manage backups and recovery, and contribute to database modernization efforts. Strong documentation and cross-functional communication are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, monitor, and optimize Db2 for z/OS and IMS databases in large-scale production environments.
• Create, modify, and maintain database objects and support application/infra teams.
• Monitor health, availability, performance, and capacity; analyze bottlenecks and implement fixes.
• Execute maintenance utilities (REORG, RUNSTATS, LOAD, UNLOAD); manage BIND/REBIND and access-path analysis.
• Oversee backup, recovery, DR procedures; participate in DR exercises and BC testing.
• Resolve incidents, change requests, and runbooks; coordinate during critical situations.
• Support IMS DBRC/RECON, DBD/PSB/ACB management, IMS recovery/reorg utilities.
• Maintain technical documentation and runbooks; follow ITIL processes.
• Provide design guidance to development teams for stable, recoverable services.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a DB2 / IMS Database Administrator based in Canada.

We are seeking an experienced database professional to support and optimize mission-critical IBM Db2 for z/OS and IMS environments. In this role, you will help maintain the performance, availability, security, and recoverability of large-scale mainframe databases. You will collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and operations teams to resolve complex technical challenges and ensure reliable production services. Your expertise will contribute to database modernization, performance optimization, disaster recovery readiness, and operational excellence. This is a remote opportunity for a highly skilled administrator comfortable working in business-critical environments and participating in a formal on-call rotation. The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge with strong troubleshooting, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Accountabilities

• Administer, maintain, monitor, and optimize IBM Db2 for z/OS and IMS databases in large-scale production environments.

• Create, modify, and maintain database objects, implement database changes, and support application and infrastructure teams with database-related requirements.

• Monitor database health, availability, performance, and storage capacity; investigate performance bottlenecks and recommend corrective actions.

• Execute and manage database maintenance utilities, including REORG, RUNSTATS, LOAD, and UNLOAD, as well as Db2 BIND/REBIND and access-path analysis.

• Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures, troubleshoot restoration issues, and participate in scheduled disaster recovery exercises and business continuity testing.

• Resolve production incidents, service requests, and change activities, conducting root-cause analysis and coordinating with technical teams during critical situations.

• Support IMS DBRC/RECON administration, DBD/PSB/ACB management, IMS recovery and reorganization utilities, and Db2 utility restart and recovery processes.

• Maintain technical documentation, develop operational runbooks, support planned maintenance and production implementations, and follow established ITIL incident, problem, and change management practices.

• Provide database design guidance and technical recommendations to application development teams to help ensure stable, efficient, and recoverable database services.

Requirements:

• At least 10 years of hands-on experience with IBM Db2 for z/OS and IMS DB/DC administration in enterprise production environments.

• Strong expertise in Db2 and IMS database performance monitoring, troubleshooting, tuning, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery.

• Practical experience with Db2 backup and recovery utilities, DB2 Platinum utilities, IMS DBRC/RECON, DBD/PSB/ACB management, and IMS recovery and reorganization utilities.

• Knowledge of Db2 BIND/REBIND, access-path analysis, SQL performance tuning, and IBM utility restart and recovery behavior.

• Strong understanding of IBM z/OS mainframe environments, JCL, and TSO/ISPF.

• Experience supporting business-critical production systems, including data-sharing environments, and familiarity with ITIL-based operational processes.

• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and operational runbooks.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across application, infrastructure, and operations teams, manage complex incidents, and participate in a formal on-call rotation.

• Additional experience with IMS/DC, IMS/TM, VSAM/OSAM, REXX, COBOL, DFSORT, IDCAMS, SMP/E, OMEGAMON, BMC MainView for Db2/IMS, CA/BMC database tools, or Db2 Query Monitor is an asset.

• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status, as required by the Controlled Goods Program.
