Job summary

Walnut Creek Family YMCA in West Des Moines is seeking a part-time Certified Group Exercise Instructor to design, plan, and deliver Yoga/Barre/Pilates classes. You will foster a welcoming, inclusive environment and promote member engagement in YMCA programs.

The role requires CPR/First Aid/AED and current certifications, with daytime hours and occasional evenings. Compensation is $19.00–$25.00 per hour, with review on a rolling basis for applications received by September 24, 2026.

Qualifications

Ability to read, write, and perform simple math.
Current certification in Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, swimming coaching, or USAT Level 1 or above.
Instructor skill competencies demonstrated.
Basic computer skills (time clock, online training).
CPR/First Aid/AED current; Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days if hired.

Responsibilities

Design, plan, prepare, and instruct assigned group exercise classes.
Create a welcoming and inclusive class environment.
Promote member engagement by encouraging involvement in Y programs and communities.
Lead members with professionalism and group exercise expertise.
Support members to attain personal fitness and wellness goals.
Assist with training/orientation of new Y staff.
Set up equipment before class and secure it after class.
Maintain records as directed by supervisor.
Educate participants on safety, form, and modifications.
Know emergency procedures and demonstrate them.
Complete accident/incident reports as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Support the Association's mission and values.
