Job summary

Shepherd’s House Ministries in Bend, OR is seeking a Daytime Safety Monitor to protect The Lighthouse Navigation Center and its daytime participants. The role focuses on safety, de-escalation, and trauma-informed care to maintain a welcoming environment.

You will monitor on-site activity, coordinate with staff and neighbors, and ensure compliance with safety policies while supporting front desk operations as needed. The position offers full-time hours and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in social services, security, or related field is a plus.
• Experience in a shelter or social service setting preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with a diverse community.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic computer skills, including MS Office and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a welcoming, safe environment where participants can access day-use services and navigation support.
• Monitor the facility and surrounding neighborhood through standing watch and patrols; identify and respond to safety concerns; notify staff or law enforcement when necessary.
• Support safety and security of the Lighthouse property by knowing facility layout, compliance requirements, and fire/hazard prevention.
• Engage individuals calmly with trauma-informed, de-escalation-focused practices to prevent conflict or use of force.
• Guide participants in safe conduct by applying Lighthouse policies and related safety guidelines.
• Serve as a safety leader for staff by communicating risks and participating in SHM training.
• Maintain awareness of separated or restricted individuals and inform staff via meetings and incident docs.
• Prepare and distribute Guest Incident Reports and other safety paperwork.
• Communicate safety updates during shift changes and coordinate with contracted security.
• Help maintain neighbor relations and area cleanliness and order.
• Perform general administrative tasks and support front desk as needed.
