Job summary

The Sunshine House, Inc. in Huntersville, NC is hiring a Daycare Cook and Bus Driver. You will prepare meals for children and staff, maintain safe food handling, and safely transport children to activities and school events.

A clean driving record and willingness to perform classroom coverage are required. We offer a competitive pay range ($16.00-$18.00/hour), with potential increases for advanced education and experience in early childhood education.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Clean driving record (no more than 2 violations in 5 years).
• Experience transporting children in a vehicle or working in licensed childcare preferred.
• Cooking/food preparation experience for large groups, preferably in childcare.
• Serv Safe certification preferred and background checks health assessments may be required.

Responsibilities

• Cook: prepare meals for children and staff per guidelines and menus.
• Follow daily menus aligned with USDA/licensing regulations; ensure safe food handling and sanitation.
• Maintain kitchen/pantry inventory and assist in classroom breaks.
• Driver: safely transport children to/from area schools and field trips in a small bus.
• Perform safety checks and drills; provide a nurturing environment.

Pay Range: $16.00-$18.00

Candidates with advanced education and experience in early childhood education may qualify for higher pay within the range. Regular increases are considered with additional education, stellar performance, and years of service.

• Passion for working with young children.

• At least 21-years-old.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Must have clean driving record (no more than 2 violations in the last 5 years)
• Previous experience transporting children in a commercial vehicle or working in licensed childcare or afterschool program preferred
• Work experience in cooking and/or food preparation for large group food service, preferably in a childcare center
• Serv Safe preferred.
• Ability to pass background checks & health assessments.

Cook Responsibilities:

• Work experience in cooking and/or food preparation for large group food service, preferably in a childcare center, preferred.
• SERV Safe certification preferred.
• Prepares and distributes meals/snacks for children and staff according to guidelines and provided menus.
• Follows daily menu that incorporates USDA, licensing and/or health department regulations.
• Ensures safe food preparations and proper sanitation methods are used and maintains a safe kitchen/pantry area.
• Maintains inventory of food and supplies.
• Must be willing to work in the classroom to cover breaks.

Driver Responsibilities:

• Safely transport children to/from area elementary schools and field trips in a small bus.
• Ensure a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment.
• Complete safety checks and drills.
