Job summary

ZippyApp - Recruitment Marketing is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician in Richmond, Kentucky, to join a 24/7 hospital team. This position involves completing treatment plans, administering medications, and running diagnostic tests.

The ideal candidate should have experience in emergency or critical care, a passion for quality patient care, and the ability to handle various animal care scenarios. The role includes a day shift schedule with expectations for 12-hour shifts and weekend volunteering.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated passion for patient quality of care.

Responsibilities

• Completing the treatment plan prescribed by Doctors.
• Running diagnostic tests according to doctor on duty orders.
• Medication administration.
• Intake and discharge of hospitalized patients.
• Discussing financial standings and patient updates with pet owners.
• Maintaining daily hospital charges.
• Patient charting and notes on Smart‑flow System / Cornerstone.
• Administering medications to boarded pets as needed.
• Maintaining a clean treatment area.
• Anesthesia monitoring during surgery.

Skills

Understanding and confidence with treatment plans for critical patients

Proficient use of medical terminology

Proper animal restraint

Peripheral catheter placement

Venipuncture

Basic bandage application

Administration of oral and parenteral medications

Knowledge of various routes of drug administration

Anesthetic monitoring, surgical scrubbing, gowning, and surgical prep

Recording vital signs

Perform basic laboratory tests

Maintain proper medical records and computer skills

Knowledge of Cornerstone and Smart-flow preferred

A candidate for this position should demonstrate a passion for patient quality of care and be a licensed veterinary technician or have equivalent experience in emergency or critical care.

Skills Required

• Understanding and confidence with treatment plans for critical patients (Cytauxzoonosis, DKA, GDV, Parvovirus, Kidney Failure, IMHA, ITP, Trauma/Shock, CHF, Seizures, Toxicities, HBC, ABD, etc.)
• Proficient use of medical terminology
• Proper animal restraint
• Peripheral catheter placement
• Venipuncture
• Basic bandage application
• Administration of oral and parenteral medications
• Knowledge of various routes of drug administration

• Aseptic surgical area preparation
• Recording vital signs (Temp, Pulse, Resp, BP, and Pain Assessment)
• Perform basic laboratory tests (CBC, Chem 17+ Lytes, T4, Phenobarbital levels, All Snap Test, Urinalysis, Coags, Blood slides, Ear cytology, PCV/TS, Fecal, etc.)
• Maintain proper medical records and computer skills
• Knowledge of in‑house and reference laboratory tests
• Knowledge of Cornerstone and Smart‑flow preferred

Schedule Requirements

For the day shift position, the employee must work 8 am – 8 pm. As a 24/7 hospital, team members are expected to work 12‑hour shifts, some weekends, and volunteer for holidays.
