Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the Surgery (Scrub/Circulate) unit at Olathe Hospital. This full-time, day-shift role focuses on providing safe, holistic nursing care within a high-acuity surgical setting.

You will assess patient readiness, educate families, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and drive evidence-based practice while maintaining adherence to Kansas Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies.

Qualifications

• RN licensure (State Board) in good standing.
• CPR/BLS certification required; several units may require additional unit-specific certifications.
• ADN-to-BSN requirement may apply for hires after Sept 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and families; teach and verify understanding using teach-back; tailor care plans.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team.
• Adhere to medication safety policies and order writing formats; double checks as required.
• Identify safety concerns for patients and staff; intervene promptly.
• Lead and mentor team members; support department-wide patient care improvements.
• Develop and evaluate care plans; adjust to changes in patient condition.
• Perform comprehensive assessments to deliver appropriate care; pursue learning opportunities within unit.
