Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide direct patient care in a community clinic setting under RN supervision. The role supports data collection, care planning, patient education, and documentation in the patient record.

The LPN will perform delegated tasks, maintain safety standards, and participate in ongoing development and quality initiatives as part of the care team.

Qualifications

• Michigan Practical Nurse licensure required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist RN/physician in collecting data for patient assessment.
• Support plan of care implementation under RN supervision.
• Assist in evaluating care effectiveness with the RN.
• Demonstrate competency in psychomotor skills within LPN scope.
• Educate patient and family on self-care per RN guidance.
• Document accurate information in the patient care record.
• Respect patient and family rights and confidentiality.
• Follow safety standards and risk management practices.
• Respond to emergencies following established procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of department processes and protocols.
• Adhere to legal issues in patient care and risk management.
• Participate in department and nursing service goals.
• Contribute to quality assurance activities.
• Communicate findings and concerns to the RN promptly.
• Collaborate with healthcare team and patients/families.
• Demonstrate staffing flexibility and adaptability.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
