Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Dental Assistant for General Dentistry in Chicago. This full-time, days schedule includes 7:30am to 4:00pm, with responsibilities spanning patient prep, chairside assistance, radiographs, and patient education.

The role requires an accredited dental assistant program or equivalent certification, high school diploma, CPR/BLS, and strong computer/dental software skills. Prior dental experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; certificate from an accredited dental assistant program preferred.
• CPR BLS certification through AHA is required or preferred.
• Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and instruments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in computer skills and dental software applications.

Responsibilities

• Greet and prepare patients for dental examinations and treatments.
• Assist dentists during procedures by handing instruments and suctioning.
• Take dental x-rays and manage radiation safety protocols.
• Educate patients on post-operative care and oral hygiene.
• Sterilize and prepare dental instruments and equipment.
• Maintain inventory of dental supplies and place orders as needed.
• Record patient medical history and treatment plans in electronic format.
• Perform basic laboratory tasks such as impressions and dental casts.
• Collaborate with team in patient care planning and documentation.
