Job summary

IU Health in Indianapolis is seeking a Full-Time Day Unit Secretary. The role blends direct patient care with essential clerical duties to support the patient care team and maintain a safe, clean environment for patients and families.

You will assist with scheduling tests, maintaining patient records, and signing patients in and out of the unit. CPR/BLS certification may be required; continuous observation may be needed for patient safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required. CPR May be required to complete Unit Secretary training program.
• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires knowledge of principles of infection control.
• Requires basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under supervision of a Clinical Nurse.
• Perform unit clerical duties and maintain patient records.
• Assist with scheduling tests and procedures.
• Sign patients in and out of the unit and manage supplies.
• Maintain a clean, orderly environment for patients and staff.
• Provide information and directions to physicians, patients, families, and vendors.
• Monitor patients including continuous observation when required.
