Job summary

Yale New Haven Health in Connecticut seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for perioperative care on a surgical unit. You will assess patients, plan and implement care, supervise non-RN staff, and participate in charge nurse responsibilities to ensure safe, efficient operations.

Requirements include CT RN license, BLS, BSN preferred, and 1 year perioperative experience. You will collaborate with the healthcare team, educate patients and families, and uphold the organization's values of integrity

Qualifications

• RN license required in CT with current BLS certification.
• 1 year peri-operative experience preferred.
• BSN preferred when applying for this role.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the Patient's physical and psychosocial status continuously throughout care.
• Develops, communicates and documents a plan of care with patient/family and healthcare team.
• Implements and coordinates the plan of care with the healthcare team.
• Evaluates effectiveness of the plan and patient readiness for discharge; revises plan as needed.
• Plans for patient and family education based on learning needs and readiness.
• Functions as a preceptor to new staff.
• Functions as a charge nurse.
• Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, and resource utilization.
• Performs other duties to ensure smooth department operation.
• Explains procedures to patients appropriate to their comprehension level.
• Implements actions to prevent injury across all patient ages.
• Prepares and organizes materials for patient procedures.
• Maintains equipment and supplies as assigned.
• Operates OR equipment safely per manufacturer specs.
• Maintains accurate OR records.
• Communicates patient status and care needs to team.
• Performs perioperative nursing assessment and re-assessment during procedures.
• Adheres to OR dress code.
• Assists with sterile table and room prep and post-procedure cleanup.
