Job summary

Northeast Arc, a Massachusetts nonprofit, is hiring a Day Support Specialist to provide hands-on care and skills training to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a Day Hab setting. You will work with an interdisciplinary team to promote independence and meaningful daily activities.

The role emphasizes compassionate service, practical support, and participation in a client-centered plan, with opportunities for professional development, benefits, and a stable weekday schedule.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of one year of experience working with intellectually and/or developmentally disabled adults or in a health care setting.
• Self-motivated team player with a positive, energetic, and professional demeanor; compassionate, creative, and able to work well with participants with diverse needs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; must be able to communicate and write in English.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs, stand for 1 hour uninterrupted, bend, and push wheelchairs.
• Must successfully complete and pass all required background checks as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and skills training for assigned participants in a Day Habilitation setting to promote independence and satisfaction in daily activities.
• Support participants in engaging with interest-based and therapeutic activities aligned with Day Hab plans.
• Assist with personal care including toileting, mealtime support, and mobility assistance (hoyer lifts, showering, dressing).
• Document information professionally in meetings, calls, and daily communications, understanding clinical and social needs of individuals served.
