Position Summary

The Director of First Aid works with the camp administration and Camp Director to ensure the overall health and safety of campers and staff. They are responsible for maintaining accurate records according to health regulations, ACA Standards, Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints, and GSOFT Policies.

Major Accountabilities
  • Coordinate healthcare and safety procedures with camp operations for campers and staff.
  • Review health forms before camp, contact families about paperwork, and inform the Camp Director of missing forms.
  • Communicate health issues that may impact camp programs.
  • Attend advisory meetings to report health and behavioral issues.
  • Ensure medication compliance and proper dispensation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of health information.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide care as per physician orders.
  • Document all healthcare activities accurately.
  • Prepare incident reports and necessary state paperwork.
  • Maintain cleanliness and infection control in the Health Center.
  • Report repairs needed for equipment and facilities.
  • Participate in opening and closing health center procedures.
  • Restock inventory in the Health Center and mobile first aid kits.
  • Participate in camp activities and meetings.
  • Maintain professional relationships and communicate effectively with staff and campers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Competencies
  • Must be 21 or older.
  • 2+ years healthcare experience preferred; high school diploma required; healthcare degree preferred.
  • Licensed RN, LPN, Paramedic, or EMT in CT preferred.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration, Epi-pen, and inhaler certifications required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with children and diverse groups.
  • Enthusiasm, energy, and a positive role model attitude.
Physical Aspects of the Job
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Availability for optional overnight camping during Week 2 and 4.
