Job summary

Leon County Government in Florida seeks an experienced equipment operator to support solid waste disposal and recycling. You will operate heavy equipment and trucks, screen waste, and ensure compliance with state environmental permits.

Shifts run 15 hours starting early morning; two rotating schedules every three months; must be able to work outdoors in varying conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• CDL Class B license required.
• Ability to inspect loads and screen waste for prohibited materials.
• Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment safely.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of heavy equipment and transport trucks safely.
• Maintain an accessible disposal and recycling area and coordinate with drivers.
• Ensure compliance with FDEP operating permit conditions.
• Screen incoming loads for waste tires, household hazardous waste and other prohibitions.
• Remove prohibited items and notify hauler and scale house.
• Keep work area clean by day end.
