Position Overview

Akkodis is seeking a Data Center Technician I for an onsite contract opportunity in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In this role, you will support critical data center infrastructure projects focused on fiber optic cable remediation, hardware support, and infrastructure maintenance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable performing repetitive hands‑on work, and able to maintain a high level of quality while working in a fast-paced data center setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform fiber optic cable remediation and infrastructure upgrades following established procedures.
• Install grounding connectors and complete cable‑related remediation activities.
• Safely handle fiber optic cables, connectors, and related hardware.
• Utilize hand tools and approved equipment to complete assigned tasks.
• Follow project documentation, training materials, and established work processes.
• Accurately document completed work using tracking systems and reporting tools.
• Support hardware installation, rack‑and‑stack activities, and infrastructure maintenance as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Communicate project status, issues, and progress to team leads and management.
• Support additional preventative maintenance and infrastructure‑related activities as directed.
• Adhere to all security, safety, and operational procedures within the data center environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1‑2 years of experience in data center operations, structured cabling, telecommunications, hardware installation, cable installation, or a related technical field preferred.
• Experience using basic hand tools safely and effectively.
• Ability to read and follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
• Comfortable learning proprietary processes through hands‑on training.
• Basic computer proficiency, including email and web‑based applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a data center environment.
• Familiarity with fiber optic cabling and structured cabling installations.
• Experience assembling or servicing server racks and related infrastructure.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality work.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and reaching while working within equipment rows.
• Ability to perform repetitive manual tasks with precision over extended periods.
• Comfortable working in active data center environments while adhering to strict safety protocols.
• Work will be performed onsite in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
• Technical training will be provided for project‑specific work.
• Daily work assignments and quality oversight will be managed by site leadership.

Work Schedule

Candidates must be flexible to support project deadlines and operational needs.

• Typical schedule is Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM‑5:00 PM.
• Overtime and extended hours may be required to meet project milestones.
• Flexibility is expected as project schedules and timelines evolve.
