Job summary

Sprout is seeking a Datacenter Server Engineer in the San Francisco area to build, troubleshoot, and repair servers within datacenter and ITAD environments. The role requires hands-on hardware skills, secure data handling, and independent work to a high standard.

Travel to customer datacenter locations is expected. This contract opportunity focuses on delivering reliable hardware services and validated server processing for Sprout's clients.

Qualifications

• Hands-on server hardware experience across major OEM platforms (Dell/HP/Supermicro/Lenovo).
• Ability to build servers from spare parts and identify compatible components.
• Solid break/fix methodology and component-level troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with BIOS/UEFI, RAID, firmware, and OS installation.
• Knowledge of data erasure software (Blancco) is a plus.
• Ability to work independently to a high standard and document steps clearly.

Responsibilities

• Build fully functional servers using spare and salvaged parts.
• Assemble, rack, cable, and configure server hardware to spec.
• Perform secure erasure of hard disks for re-deployment.
• Install OS, firmware, drivers; verify functionality before deployment.
• Troubleshoot server hardware/firmware faults and replace failed components.
• Document diagnostic steps and resolutions for each unit.
