Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior database engineer in Colorado to deploy, operate, and maintain SQL Server and Azure Database solutions. You will configure highly available architectures aligned with DR/COOP, monitor performance, and handle Tier 2 incidents to ensure data integrity and availability.

Responsibilities include patching, data migrations, access control management, and security enforcement for data in transit and at rest.

Qualifications

• Current Top Secret SCI clearance with ability to obtain poly prior to start.
• DOD 8140 Certification applicable to role (minimum Security+).
• Microsoft Certified SQL Server Engineer, Microsoft Certified Azure Database Engineer, Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate, IBM Db2 Database Associate, or equivalent.
• An AA and 10+ years of experience, BS/BA and 8+ years of experience, MS/MA and 6+ years of experience, or PhD and 4+ years of experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience integrating, operating, and maintaining IT hardware and software solutions.
• Experience supporting relational database platforms in operational environments, including troubleshooting, tuning, patching, monitoring, backup/restore, and data-migration activities.
• Experience implementing and maintaining clustered or highly available database architectures.
• Experience performing Tier 2 support in multi-network, multi-domain operational environments.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, operate, and maintain database solutions using Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Database, and other relational database platforms.
• Configure and support highly available and clustered database architectures aligned with DR and COOP requirements.
• Monitor database performance, capacity, availability, and service-level indicators.
• Perform Tier 2 troubleshooting, incident analysis, and break/fix support.
• Execute maintenance, patching, updates, and upgrades within authorized change windows.
• Manage database access controls, role assignments, permissions, and delegated administration.
• Conduct backup, restoration, and data-migration operations.
• Support stakeholder DBAs and mission application teams with database connectivity and performance.
• Enforce security and encryption policies for data at rest and in transit.
• Analyze requirements, concepts of operations, and architectures.
• Collaborate with Engineering teams and Government stakeholders.
• Perform operational tasks across multiple networks and security domains.
• Contribute to Beta testing, Acceptance testing, and Blue/Green fielding strategies.
• Coordinate with Tier 3 and Engineering resources for advanced troubleshooting and remediation.
• Utilize lab facilities for incident investigation, design validation, and feasibility testing.
• Develop test cases and scripts for database components
• Produce SOPs, knowledge base artifacts, documentation, and compliance materials
• Provide continuous patch management
• Coordinate approved POA&Ms and other compliance artifacts
• Participate in Continual Service Improvement efforts and evaluate emerging technologies
