Job Summary

The Database Security Engineer Lead is responsible for implementing and maintaining security systems that detect, prevent, contain, and deter threats to protect relational database systems, AWS cloud-native databases, NoSQL, and big data platforms. Working with a team of security professionals, the engineer will provide guidance, support, and perform expert-level incident response and investigations to safeguard the bank’s information assets.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, test, document, monitor, and implement database security solutions in line with policies and standards.
  2. Serve as a trusted advisor to business, operations, development, risk, and compliance teams on database security matters.
  3. Manage database activity monitoring platforms for security and audit compliance, including policy creation and analysis.
  4. Develop and maintain database security standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  5. Enhance existing controls and policies to prevent unauthorized data use, modification, or destruction.
  6. Evaluate updates to security controls, coordinate testing and implementation with stakeholders.
  7. Identify vulnerabilities in security products and determine mitigation strategies.
  8. Improve preventive security systems against breaches.
  9. Assess security patches from vendors, evaluate risks, and collaborate on vulnerability mitigation.
  10. Respond to security incidents, assist in investigations, and perform root cause analysis.
  11. Lead technical projects within the area of responsibility.
  12. Work with database custodians to understand security needs and implement best practices.
  13. Coordinate with auditors to demonstrate compliance with security controls.
  14. Monitor and report security violations, stay updated on industry trends.
  15. Manage complex projects, prepare detailed plans, and evaluate business processes affecting security.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor’s in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, IT, or related fields; industry certifications or comparable experience.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5-7+ years in cybersecurity, incident response, or related fields.
  • Experience in banking or finance industry preferred.
  • Expertise in database security, monitoring, and protection.
  • Experience with platforms such as Imperva Data Security, DRA, DSF/Sonar; certifications like IDSS preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of databases and technologies like Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL.
  • Familiarity with AWS RDS and other cloud services.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity tools, vulnerability detection, and mitigation.
  • Experience with penetration testing, audits, and GRC tools.
  • Knowledge of security risks and controls, ability to analyze and implement cost-effective solutions.
  • Proficiency with DAM, SIEM, UEBA tools.
  • Knowledge of various operating systems and security systems.
  • Excellent documentation, presentation, and diagramming skills.
  • Understanding of regulations like GLBA, SOX, PCI.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CEH, CGRC, CAP are a plus.

The typical base salary range is $137K - $176K, depending on experience and location. The role may include performance bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, retirement, education, and paid leave. For more details, see our MUFG Benefits Summary.
