Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated IT Database Manager to oversee the administration, security, performance, and strategic development of the company’s database environments and related business systems.

This position combines hands-on database expertise with IT leadership responsibilities to ensure the availability, integrity, security, and performance of critical company data across shore-side offices and vessel-based operations.

The IT Database Manager will serve as a key technical resource, managing enterprise database environments while supporting broader IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, networking, business applications, and end-user technology initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technical leader with strong troubleshooting skills and demonstrated experience diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues across database, Microsoft 365, network, infrastructure, and end-user environments. The successful candidate must be comfortable working directly with technology and troubleshooting issues in real-world operational scenarios rather than relying solely on high-level management or vendor support.

Given the company's current technology needs, particular emphasis will be placed on candidates with strong experience in Microsoft 365 administration, network troubleshooting, networking infrastructure, Wi-Fi technologies, and enterprise connectivity, in addition to database administration. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and be able to effectively collaborate with both technical teams and business stakeholders.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong experience administering Microsoft SQL Server and/or other enterprise database platforms.
• Strong understanding of database architecture, design, normalization, performance tuning, and query optimization.
• Experience with database backup, recovery, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery technologies.
• Experience supporting ERP applications and database-driven business systems.
• Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and Intune.
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Entra ID (Azure AD), identity management, authentication, and access controls.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience troubleshooting Microsoft 365, Windows, application, connectivity, and end-user technology issues.
• Strong understanding of enterprise networking infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, VPNs, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, VLANs, and network security.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting wired and wireless network connectivity, including Wi-Fi performance, coverage, authentication, interference, and access-point issues.
• Ability to independently diagnose network and infrastructure problems using appropriate troubleshooting methodologies and tools.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking and network troubleshooting.
• Understanding of DNS, routing, firewalls, VPNs, DHCP, VLANs, and enterprise networking concepts.
• Experience with network monitoring, diagnostics, and performance troubleshooting.
• Experience with Citrix, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), and/or Terminal Services environments.
• Experience supporting geographically distributed offices, remote locations, and/or vessel-based technology environments.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex database, application, infrastructure, networking, Wi-Fi, Microsoft 365, and connectivity issues.
• Strong hands-on technical troubleshooting skills and the ability to work through complex technical scenarios independently.
• Ability to assess technical problems, identify root causes, develop solutions, and implement corrective actions with minimal supervision.
